Susan Flannery Adams, SPHR, SHRM-SCP
Susan Flannery Adams is a member of the Professional Faculty in the School of Business and Economics at Sonoma State University, as well as an active independent HR consultant. Susan brings over 20 years of HR experience in both non-profit and corporate environments with specific expertise in evaluating, designing, and implementing effective HR systems and programs that support the overall business needs of organizations. As a consultant, she provide hands-on, project-based Human Resources and Organization Development support including interim HR Director roles, HR operations optimization, talent acquisition programs and recruitment, development and implementation of training programs, establishment of effective compensation benefit programs, employee engagement and satisfaction programs, leadership development and coaching, and strategic planning facilitation. Prior experience includes leading Human Resources at PNI Sensor Corporation in Santa Rosa, and senior HR positions at international consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton and Chicago-based healthcare provider United Methodist Homes and Services. Susan holds a Bachelor's Degree in International Economics and Cultural Affairs from Valparaiso University, and a Master's Degree in Human Resources and Organization Development from the University of San Francisco. She holds certifications as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and SHRM Senior Certified Human Resources Professional.
golbou ghassemieh has 15 years of professional Human Resources management level experience. Her career began as a recruiter for a local executive search firm, and she also spent time consulting with small businesses while working on her Master’s thesis. She continued her career in the challenging retail industry as a HR Manager, and then, transitioned into the public sector HR at the County of Sonoma supporting 27 departments and over 4,000 employees. She served as the Recruitment & Classification Manager responsible for the employment division and then Assistant Director of Human Resources, overseeing multiple sub-divisions of County of Sonoma’s central HR Department, including EEO, Recruitment & Classification, Workforce Development, HRIS, Employee Retention & Engagement Programs, and other administrative functions. In July 2017 she took the senior HR leadership position for the City of Santa Rosa. golbou holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from U.C. Berkeley, a Master’s in Business Administration from Sonoma State, and several private and public sector HR certifications. She has been appearing as a lecturer at Sonoma State off and on since 2004.
John F. Hyland has primarily focused his practice to employment law since his admission to the Bar in 1995. Prior to forming Rukin Hyland & Riggin LLP, John held an Of Counsel position with Paul Hastings, LLP in the firm's San Francisco office where he advised and represented companies in State and Federal court actions covering all areas of employment law, including wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, disability law, employee privacy, employee leaves, and wage and hour issues. John has represented clients in jury trials and arbitrations, and has argued cases before the California Court of Appeal. He continues to advise and represent clients in all areas of employment law and in commercial and business disputes. John serves as an editor and contributing author for the CEB Publication, Employee Leave Laws: Compliance and Litigation (2016). John regularly conducts training seminars and presents on a wide array of employment law issues. Law & Politics Magazine selected John as one of its Northern California Super Lawyers each year from 2006 through 2012, and again in 2014-19. San Francisco's Best Lawyers named John in its 2012 edition, and The Best Lawyers in America selected John for inclusion in each edition since 2012. In addition to his litigation and counseling practice, John devotes a significant part of his practice to serving as a mediator. John obtained certification as an employment law mediator from Cornell University’s School of Industrial Relations and from the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. He served as a mediator for the Sonoma County Superior Court ADR Program in which he mediated a wide array of civil cases, and he continues to serve as a panelist for the Court’s settlement conference program. John is also a member of the Early Neutral Evaluation Program for the United States District Court for the Northern District of California for which he serves as an evaluator and serves as a mediator for the Court as well.
Jessica Jauregui is a dynamic Human Resources leader with over 20 years of accomplished leadership experience in all functional areas of Human Resources. She has been the Chief Human Resources Officer at Santa Rosa Community Health since April 2017. In her current role as the executive level HR professional, Ms. Jauregui provides leadership to a team of seven HR Professionals and strategic partnership to the health center’s senior leadership team. Prior to that, Ms. Jauregui worked with St. Joseph Health as the Director of Human Resources. In that role she led a team of 10 HR professionals and all functional areas of human resources including employee and labor relations, organizational development, recruitment and selection, employment and retention, training and development, and employee health services. She possesses extensive knowledge of labor and employment law, including the NLRA and collective bargaining agreements. She also brings experience in the wine industry as she started her HR career at Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates. Jessica has a BS in Business Administration from California State University-Chico and a Master's Degree in Human Resources and Organization Development from the University of San Francisco. In her free time she is very active with her husband and daughters and enjoys training for triathlons, reading and drinking Sonoma County wine.
Victor (Vic) McKnight
Vic McKnight is Vice President of InterWest Insurance Services. He joined InterWest in August 2016. Previously, he was a Principal at EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants in their North Bay office. Vic has been in insurance consulting and employee benefit program management for 24 years. As a benefits consultant, he enjoys partnering with HR professionals to create employee benefit programs meet the strategic goals of their organizations. His strategic planning and program design ensure quality, timely and accurate deliverables for developing effective employee benefit communication programs. Vic is a graduate of St. Mary’s College of California in Moraga, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management. He is two time Past President of the North Coast Association of Health Underwriters, an active member of the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Mark West Union School District. A frequent speaker to business groups on healthcare reform and health insurance trends, Vic also regularly contributes his perspective to articles appearing in the North Bay Business Journal and other North Bay publications.
Scott Rhymes is a highly accredited environmental, health, and safety professional with over 20 years of experience working in the areas of workplace safety, environmental health and insurance risk control. Scott is currently a Senior Risk Control Consultant with ABD Insurance Services where he helps clients identify and minimize industrial hygiene and safety risk management exposures. Scott helps develop and implement health and safety programs for a variety of industries including large technology, transportation, and manufacturing. He conducts initial facility needs assessments, program development, culture improvement workshops and management training. His technical experience includes environmental, health and safety program development, and the development of program metrics to help ensure proper resource allocation. Scott’s registrations and certifications include: Associate Risk Manager; Certified Industrial Hygienist; Certified Safety Professional; Registered Environmental Health Specialist. He also has focused training in OSHA management and supervisor training; 40- Hour OSHA health and safety training; indoor air quality investigation; and industrial and office ergonomics. Scott holds a Bachelors and Master of Science degree in Environmental and Occupational Health from the California State University.
Lorraine Segal, M.A., through her business Conflict Remedy, offers consulting, coaching, and training for business executives, managers, and employees to help them navigate conflict, communicate clearly, understand bullying, and help create a harmonious and productive workplace. Her clients have included the Department of the Interior, St. Joseph’s Health, County of Napa, Duckhorn Winery, and a number of companies and nonprofit organizations. As well as being a professor at Sonoma State University, she also teaches for Br?v Online Conflict Management. She has been interviewed by NPR and quoted in Huffington Post. She is a contributing author in a new book, "Stand up, Speak Out against Workplace Bullying", December 2017.
